<p>Taking a page out of the book of viral marketing, Steve announced, with advanced apologies to the local telephone company, that he would hold a contest during his 3-hour afternoon show with the winner receiving a pair of AC/DC concert tickets.</p>
<p>The mission Steve assigned to his listeners was as follows:</p>
<p>Step 1: Call Steve and receive a special code.</p>
<p>Step 2: Have 10 members of your friends and family call or email Steve with the your special code, with a limit of 3 contacts being by email.</p>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-587" title="999BobFM" src="http://wbobr.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/999BobFM1.gif" alt="999BobFM" width="128" height="150" />The first person to have their code returned to Steve during the 3-hour show would be the proud winner of one of the last remaining pair of tickets to the sold out AC/DC concert the following night.  The codes had to be received before Steve&#8217;s show went off the air.</p>
<p>Phone lines sizzled as a firestorm of calls and text messages flew about the province and listeners battled the heat of competition to win their tickets.  A short hour and a half later, the winner was announced.</p>
<p><span id="more-581"></span>While the tickets were consumed in the blaze, there is a residue of learning to be had from this experience.  As the smoke clears, it is plain to see that Steve Thompson and the Smoke Jumpers at <a href="http://www.999bobfm.com/main.aspx" target="_blank">99.9 Bob FM</a> had pulled off a red hot, sizzling viral campaign with their innovative contest.</p>
