I ran across a great post this morning from Darren Rowse at Problogger.net on an eBook product launch he just completed and thought I would share it with you.

We all have had many posts, reports and eBooks telling us how to promote products. In this post, Darren shares some of the lessons he learned from a recent eBook product launch.

In a nutshell, this is what he learned.

1 – Offers with Deadlines work – Darren’s sales graph is accompanied by steps taken on specific days and reflects a distinct rise in sales when a deadline is in place.

2 – Extra Launch Offer – Day 1 results may have been better with a fast action offer of some sort to encourage those sitting on the fence or “thinking about it”.

3 – Mid Offer Promotion – With the sharp decrease in sales between the offers with deadlines, it was suggested to Darren that he may have tried a mid offer promotion to rekindle interest midway through the product launch.

4 – More Hand Holding For Affiliates – Darren learned from the actions of affiliates promoting his eBook and saw room for improvement in his ability to support their efforts.
5 – Pre Launch Buzz – The pre launch was down played on for this eBook so as not to burn out his list. However, over the course of the launch, he learned that there are means to add to the pre launch buzz in a manner that added value to others.

6 – Price isn’t everything – Continued sales at the regular price following the launch’s 25% discount show that if a promotion is done well, the buzz will continue to bring in sales once it is over. Of course that is if the product is still available as many IM promotions close after being sold out.

7 – It Takes A Lot of Work – Launch preparation is followed by a sharp increase in Customer Support issues during and probably following the launch as well. If you are handling customer queries personally, expect to answer several hundred of them during and following the launch.

8 – Products are Powerful for more than Just the Money They Earn – Darren discovered that the impact was significant not only on his earnings, but also on the folks involved in his niche. Readers feel more connected to the blog once they’ve purchased the eBook and interest in the site itself has increased as a direct result of his product launch.

While not revealing actual earnings from this launch, Darren is careful to explain that sales do not equal spendable income as the costs of the launch must first be deducted to arrive at the true net income earned.

Before you ask, no, I was not in anyway connected to this launch. It was simply something I ran across in the course of my reading. I think Darren has done a great job in this post of relating his experiences and lessons learned. It is this type of authoritative revelation that adds to the knowledge others seek in learning to promote their own products and develop their own product launch.
