Writing For Online Business: Leverage Your Content and Increase Sales
Writing for online business involves spending a lot of time developing online content that is timely and useful to your targeted audience. This is part of the job description when you take on an online business. But, did you know that it is also possible to leverage your content and get more mileage out of it?
Repurposing Existing Content
The content you develop can have a multitude of purposes and once you realize this potential, you gain additional advantages for your business. For example, a piece of content may start out as an informative article in a newsletter.
A few changes to the title and copy will allow it to reappear as an article that can be submitted or as an addition to the content on your blog or website. From this point, it may also become part of a digital product such as:
An eBook – Collect and update a series of content pieces and bring them together in an eBook format that is easy for your customers to download and make use of.
Special Reports – Expand on your content to produce a special report that targets a specific need your audience is dealing with. These reports could be kept short and used as a giveaway. Or if you have a lot of content to share, why not make a 5 to 20 page report that can be sold?
Audio or Video Products – It is a well-known fact that people learn in different ways. Increase the value of your repurposed content by meeting that need and making it available in audio, video or both formats. You could use these formats to add value to an eBook or report or as an up sell for either one.
Presentations and Webinars – As you gain popularity and respect within your niche, you may be asked to create or participate in a live event such as speaking at a seminar, or possibly an online event such as a webinar. Use the material you so painstakingly researched for your content as a building block for invitations and events of this nature.
Republishing – Allow selected content to be republished by other content-hungry sites in their newsletters and site content, with proper attribution and linkage of course. You may want to tweak the material a bit so as to avoid duplicate content penalties.
Update – Use existing content to present a before and after experience for readers if that content has become out dated. This contrasting allows you to give new life to old content rather than simply removing it from your site as being no longer applicable or obsolete.
There are probably even more ways to leverage your content once you focus on doing so. As your content is transformed into new products, you will have a greater variety to offer and sell. And, as you are the owner of the products, you have the option of promoting their sale on your own or expanding sales by splitting the profits with others that help to promote your product.

Updating existing content is a big sign to the reader or researcher. If they see that there is only stale content on your site, they will be less inclined to glean from it because it is so out of date.
