SEO Basics: Creating Content that is Relevant for Readers and Search Engines

If you want your blog or website to stand out amongst the multitudes, it is important that you pay strict attention to the kind of articles that you put online.

It is all about creating content that is relevant for readers and search engines. Your readers will be looking for the latest, cutting edge information, so this is where your content needs to focus if your goal is to increase traffic.

Content comes in a variety of forms including blog posts and articles, as well as video and audio formats. The number one requirement for your content is that it is relevant to the topic you chose for your website.

If your website is about candles, then you will want to supply your reader with plenty of content that revolves around this hot topic. Seriously, you don’t want to be talking about handbags or golf clubs or even dishware if you are catering to the how to make candles market.

Here are some additional SEO basics to help you in getting started:

1. Be Creative

No matter which niche you are targeting, there is sure to already be a lot of content out there, which can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, the content available can spark ideas for you on what to write about. On the other hand, it is tough to be original with your content.

One way to add originality to your writing is to include personal experiences. Personal experiences provide information that can not be found elsewhere, after all, they are your experiences. Personal experiences also help connect you with your readers and define you as a real person.

Include failures as well as successes. Yes, we would all love to be perfect, but the reality is that we are not and we make mistakes. Believe it or not, it is easier to trust someone who admits to making mistakes and you do want to gain the trust of your readers. It isn’t necessary to make yourself out to be the worlds worst, just be real.

Take an experience that you tried, which didn’t have the results you were looking for, and use it to create an article that warns readers of things they shouldn’t do. If you also found a way to fix what happened, so much the better, share this as well in an article revealing your successful tips.

Wherever possible, use as many of the available media formats as is possible. Create a video, or even audio file of your content to give readers a choice of reading, listening or watching your content. This will enable you to appeal to a far wider range of visitors.

2. Don’t Forget Your SEO Basics

Once you have written down your ideas and even possibly fleshed out a rough draft for your content, it is time to decide on which keywords will work best with what is being written. It is as you know, the keywords you incorporate into your article that are used to help search engines and searchers find your content. So, make them sit up and take notice with keywords that are not only relevant, but that can also be included in the content in a natural manner.

If you are just out to please the search engine bots by forcing words into content in a manner that makes no sense to the reader, you will only end up with unhappy readers. Unhappy readers click away quickly from content they don’t like and the search engine bots notice that as well.

3. Special Features

Your content has a purpose. That purpose is to satisfy SEO requirements that will draw new traffic and keep your visitors happy. Using the following 3 options in your content will help with drawing new traffic to your site.

  • Bulleted Points
  • Optimized Article Titles
  • Numbers In Your Titles

Watch yourself the next you read an article. What is it that you typically do when deciding that an article is something you want to spend time reading from beginning to end? The typical reader will scan the article as a first step looking for relevancy.

Numbers that appear in titles and titles optimized with relevant keywords, let readers know that they will find a certain number of points covered about a specific topic.

Bulleting makes the article easier to read and scan. Bulleted points work well for sub-headings as well. Catchy titles are, (you guessed it), eye catching, which makes readers want to click on your link instead of the other search results that have been presented.

Are you creating content that is relevant for readers and search engines? If not, read over this information again. Then analyze and refit your content wherever possible with these SEO basics in mind to enable your content to do the best possible job for you.

To Your Success,

I agree Eugene, SEO plays a major role in generating traffic. Your SEO efforts will help with your Google campaigns, and will also help gain you traffic from other search engines, even if you are not currently using them for promotion.
