Using Keywords On Websites: Which Keywords to Use for Your Niche
The role of website content is not just one of giving visitors something to read. Website content, when used in combination with the correct keywords, serves to attract a specific type of visitor, one that is targeted for your niche.
Using keywords on websites involves knowing which keywords to use for your niche. The use of targeted keywords throughout your website and content will give you a high score on the search engines for the keywords you want to be known for and help get you noticed by the people who would be most interested in what you have to offer.
Doing Your Homework
A businessperson never stops learning and developing new skills to help their business grow. While many assume that the homework ended when they graduated from school, the reality is that it never ends. Keyword research is no exception. In order to find the best keywords for your content, you need to do your homework.
Keyword research involves searching for and finding keywords that will help your content rank high in the search engines, making your website stand out above the competition. You don’t have to be a keyword wizard to do this type of research and get it right. So, let’s get started.
Conducting Keyword Research
1. Create a list of keywords and multi-word phrases that a customer might use to find you via the search engines. Try to put yourself into the customer’s shoes wherever possible. This might be easier for you if you join into online conversations related to your niche and use the terminology of those conversations. Write down or record as many keywords as you can in a spreadsheet program. Spreadsheet programs allow for easy editing and changes. OpenOffice.org provides a free open-source office software suite for those that would like to save a few dollars.
2. Survey your customers. Ask them what methods they used to find you. If they used a search engine, see if they recall the words and phrases that brought you to their attention. While this may seem obvious to some, many businesses fail to take this step or to ask the right questions.
3. Make use of the free keyword software tools that are available. These tools will give you insight into the plausibility of a keyword reaching your target audience. They will also give you variations of the keyword or phrase that you are researching.
4. Analyze the data you have gathered and remove any keywords or phrases that do not specifically target the response you are after. Don’t throw away those keywords. Instead, list them separately as possible negative keywords. Now rank the keywords that remain from best to worst.
5. Now it is time to test your chosen keywords and phrases. You won’t be using them all at once, even if you are generating content around them. Keep track of the keywords as they are used and their performance. Take note of when they are highly visible in the search engines or if they can be tied to specific results such as an increase in traffic or higher conversions.
All right, now you have some homework to do. Follow the tips above to determine which keywords to use for your niche content. Test the performance of the keywords you have chosen and move those that are not performing to a negative keyword list. Over time, you will that using keywords on websites and developing a list of highly targeted keywords that will help you to increase traffic to your website with targeted viewers.

First of all, I am glad that you’ve mentioned OpenOffice’s name here. I have seen a few reviews out there focusing on Microsoft Office’s newer version but I’ve personally used OpenOffice and it rocks! although I am yet to try it on Windows.
Secondly, yes keywords are no doubt one of the most important part of your SEO strategy, your link building assignments are based upon it. If you’re building links for the wrong keyword, you’re basically ranking your website for wrong people. It is very important that your content is optimized good with proper keywords in it otherwise even Google may see that you’re competing on a wrong niche and may take steps to take you out from that keyword rankings.
I am not pretty sure about this theory regarding Google so please let me know whether I got this one correct or not
Hmmm… Good question Jerry. I don’t think the problem will be that Google will take you out themselves so much as the people that use those search keywords will click off your page too quickly because of a lack of relevance and this is something the bots notice. When they notice this sort of activity, your site is downgraded as one that is shown for that keyword.
OpenOffice definitely gets the job done. Efective keyword searching makes everything go the way things should be.
This is a useful blog for I am looking for a good keywords for the niche. Thanks!
